The farmholiday firm Tenuta del Morige has got its
name from the ancient doric word "Mùs" that meant "stone",
then turned into "Morige". In fact, Mórige
scenery is formed by stones, rock-walls, trulli,
besides mediterranean
flora: this makes the view very agreeable.
The soil of Morige consists of slime and sand, very good for olive-tree
growing.

The firm belongs to Demetrio De Magistris, who has preserved the traditional production of first quality extra virgin olive oil once followed by his family for three generations; it is situated in the territory of Galatone, a town near Lecce (Apulia in the south of Italy), it has an altitude of 70 mt above sea level, it is far 10 km from Gallipoli, and 3 km from Santa Maria al Bagno and Santa Caterina, the most attractive seaside resorts of the Ionian Sea are at 5 km from natural Park of Porto Selvaggio. The dominant Scirocco and Libeccio winds come from the Ionian Sea and blow upon the Morige hundred-year old olive-trees, and pick up the scents of them whichgive the oil a particular fragance even thanks to the verm mild climate during winter and the strong and continuous sun radiation.
